Acrylic on board, 9 x 12 inches. We frequently visit Jekyll Island, which is a barrier island on the coast of Georgia. The Horton house was re-built after a fire burned it down in 1743 and was owned by William Horton, a military aide to Gen. Oglethorpe. The house is one of the oldest “tabby” buildings in Georgia. Tabby is a type of concrete made by burning oyster shells to create lime, then mixing it with water, sand, ash, and broken oyster shells. I used my photographs to paint the tabby house in my studio.
