Acrylic on board, 8 x 10 inches. The inspiration for this painting is the destination of Jekyll Island, on the south Georgia coast. Jekyll is one of nearly a dozen barrier islands along the Georgia coast. Jekyll is a Georgia state park, with only 1/3 of the land developed with homes (land is leased from the state), hotels, and recreation sites.

Coastal Scene

Acrylic on canvas, 12 x 12 inches. This painting was completed in a course entitled Coastal Canvas taught by Will Kemp at The Will Kemp Art School. I’ve taken many courses with Will Kemp over the last ten years. I hadn’t taken one in about two years, so when he announced this new course, Coastal Canvas.

Sailboat in Two Colors

Acrylic painting on 8-inch x 10-inch board. An article by Susan Abbott inspired this painting. Her report suggests painting in two colors. She talked about the value of using just two colors, a brown and a blue. In my case, I used burnt sienna & ultramarine blue and a little white (Titanium white). One of her challenges was to paint using just two colors, Edward Hopper’s sailing painting.

Acrylic on board, 8 inch x 10 inch. This was a beautiful photo of hills in the background of a road leading up to the hills. In addition to cobalt blue, Titanium white, and neutral grey, I used a few earth tones to paint the road and foreground leading to the hills in the background.

Acrylic on board, 8 inches x 10 inches. This is a painting of a scene in Brenham, Texas, about eight years ago. We haul a 14-foot trailer using a Ford Expedition. We travel from Marietta, Georgia, to antique shows from Washington, D.C., to Round Top, Texas. We had a disaster on I-610 in Houston.
