The Lost Car, acrylic on canvas, 8 x 10 inches.  This painting was inspired by a photograph I found on pixabay.com. All photos on this site are released free of copyrights under Creative Commons CC0.  The photographer is Jo Wiggijo, from Deutschland,. He labeled the photo Africa, Namibia, Solitaire. To me it was a stunning scene showing a stranded automobile surrounded by sand and foliage with mountains in the distance.

I used burnt sienna wash to cover the white of the canvas. See the photo below.  I then transferred a copy of the photograph onto the canvas.  I did an underpainting using colors out of the tube that were compliments of the colors in the photograph.  I’ve included an image of the underpainting.  Then using a kind of Bezold effect, I painted on the underpainting using the complimentary colors you see on the underpainting.
