Acrylic on Canvas, 8 x 10 1/2 inches.  I did this painting as part of a “paint along” course by Johannes Vloothuis which was offered through the Artists Network.tv instruction.

The course was seen on two steaming videos each lasting about 2 hours.  The course was a paint along with Vloothuis.  I found it difficult to follow along with him, primarily because all you saw was the back of his head, and he seldom shared his actual palette. Nevertheless, it was an extremely valuable course, especially listening to such a master painter as Vloothuis.

He provided a drawing of the reference photograph shown below.  His approach was very interesting in that he talked all along about thinking about the painting as painting the puzzle pieces which are quite clearly shown in the drawing.  He started at the top, and moved downward.  I’ve included his final drawing in the third picture below, and my drawing is below it.
