Acrylic on board, 11 inches x 14 inches. This is the third painting depicting the marsh and surrounding landscape on Jekyll Island, Georgia. Jekyll Island is State of Georgia Park, with about 35% of the land leased to homeowners and commercial enterprises.

Along a stretch of Georgia’s coastline, from Savannah to St. Mary’s, there are a series of barrier islands and marshlands. Georgia’s coast is “vanishing” with stronger storms, higher tides, and rising sea levels. Many areas along the coast have flooded during the past decade.

Jekyll Island is one of Georgia’s barrier islands. Here are some photos taken of the marsh and sand dunes on Jekyll.
