Acrylic on Canvas, 16 by 20 inches.  On a recent trip to Asheville, NC, we stayed at the Biltmore Inn on the Biltmore Estates.  The first night there, we visited the Biltmore House, which was built between 1889 and 1895.  From the patios of the Biltmore House, there are spectacular views of the North Carolina mountains.  I used several photos as references for the painting that I sketched out on the canvas.

Final Painting

Initially I had combined the first two photos shown below, and created a painted using the merged picture.  I wasn’t happy about the sky, so I created a sky that more muted, soft, and appealing than angry sky from the photo.  The completed painting is above.

I painted this version first, but did not like the sky. Too angry, and not showing the colors I wanted. So painted over this sky, and you see the final sky at the top of this stack of photos.
