This painting was the result of an exercise that I found in Artists Magazine, Jan/Feb 2016 issue which was an article written by artist Carol Hillock. She developed the exercise as a way to help us “ditch the details” by staging a six step process beginning with blocking in the major shapes seen

in the reference photo, and then using single colors to paint the blocks on the canvas.  Then she suggested stepping back and then focusing on various parts of the painting to add color and various marks.  I liked her concept of “one stroke wonders” which meant that you could had a single stroke to add punch to the painting.
