Acrylic on canvas, 11 inches x 14 inches. This painting of Black Horse is based on the photography of Frank Albert Rinehart, (1861 – 1928). He was famous for his photography of Native American personalities and scenes, especially of leaders and members of the delegates who attended the 1898 Indian Congress in Omaha. I found the photograph searching on Unsplash. The photograph of Black Horse is located on the Digital Commonwealth, Boston Public Library. You can find more than 100 photographs of Native Americans by Frank Rinehart here.

Black Horse was an Arapaho chief during the Indian Wars. He led the Arapaho Tribe against the United States on the Great Plains during the late 19th century.

I found a few photographs of Black Horse. Here are two from Rinehart’s photographs.

I also found more photographs of Black Horse on the firstpeople.us website. I liked this site because it is a child friendly site about Native Americans and members of the First Nations. You can find information about the First People site.

I also use the apps Olli and Waterlogue. I’ve been using these apps for awhile. They help you see imagery, and photographs with other perspectives. Here are some images that I created using Olli of Black Horse.
